Flight over the Atlin-Juneau Icefield, Atlin, BC

It was too windy to go out fishing on Atlin Lake in my small Zodiak, so instead we chartered a 6 seater Cessna 207 for a flight-seeing trip over the Alaska Coastal Mountains. We were surprised, how short a distance it is between Atlin and the coastal regions of the Alaska panhandle. Mount Blachnitzky (1,997m) overlooks the 32km long Gilkey Glacier and Trench. Like nearly all glaciers worldwide it has retreated, over 4km since the 1980s.
